The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken legal action by appealing a no-case ruling granted to Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, former Governor of Niger State, and Tanko Beji, former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Niger State. The Court of Appeal is now set to review the case following a decision by Justice Abdullahi Mukailu of the Niger State High Court on December 7, 2023.

Initially facing a seven-count charge, including conspiracy and criminal breach of trust, the defendants successfully made a no-case submission, leading to the discharge of Aliyu and Beji, while Umar Mohammed Nasko was directed to open his defense. Dissatisfied with the ruling, the EFCC filed an appeal on January 10, 2024, expressing confidence in the Court of Appeal's ability to address the matter comprehensively.

In a surprising turn of events on January 15, 2024, the Attorney General of Niger State sought to take over the case from the EFCC, leading to the discharge of one of the defendants, Umar Mohammed Nasko. Despite these developments, the EFCC remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice, proceeding with the appeal against Aliyu and Beji at the Court of Appeal and maintaining its commitment to combating economic and financial crimes.
